  • Overview

    Our client, a leader in their industry is actively seeking a Level 4 and a Level 2 Unix Administrator for a contract to hire opportunity in the Columbus, Ohio area. These candidates must have experience as a AIX System Engineer/Administrator with a strong background in both AIX and Red Hat Linux to assist in meeting new project needs and system support activities. AIX environment is 700+ LPARs running AIX 7.1 and 7.2, while Red Hat environment is 1300+ servers both physical and virtual running RHEL 5+ through 7.4.

    Responsibilities

    • Configuration, implementation and management of IBM Power Systems and RHEL Enterprise servers in a highly available and virtualized environment (both physical and virtual).
    • Building, configuring, troubleshooting LPARs, VIO servers on IBM Power Systems, or RHEL systems on physical (rack mount and blades) and virtual server (on VMWare 6.5/6.7)
    • Backup / Recovery processes and disaster recovery procedures to maintain data protection and availability. Experience with NIM and supporting SAN Replication Technologies on Unix/Linux and Storix on RHEL.
    • Ensure day-to-day support and a high level of 24x7x365 service availability as well as participate in on-call support.
    • Respond to real-time performance alerts to resolve performance problems, regular on-going performance analysis and capacity planning.
    • Independently perform moderate-complex troubleshooting, root-cause analysis, solution development, and implementation.
    • Apply Technology Level Updates to AIX on a periodic basis as well as perform routine patch analysis. Utilize Satellite server to apply patches and updates to RHEL systems.
    • Apply Firmware/Microcode updates to IBM systems.
    • Strong performance tuning and capacity planning experience.
    • Experience with supporting HACMP/Power HA and Oracle RAC on AIX and RHEL Linux in addition to Veritas clustering.
    • Maintain physical and logical diagrams of hardware environment.
    • Update ServiceNow CMDB, Asset records as required.

    Qualifications

    • Minimum 7+ years of experience with IBM AIX 6.1 or higher and 3+ years of RHEL experience.
    • Minimum 5 years of experience in supporting EMC Storage Solutions connected to AIX/Unix and RHEL Linux Servers
    • Applicant must have a solid understanding of automating system administration task and scripting languages
    • Applicant must have a solid understanding of TCPIP, Host and network security concepts.
    • Strong performance tuning and capacity planning experience.
    • Knowledge/experience with LDAP installation and configuration.
    • Knowledge/experience with Satellite server operation.
    • Knowledge/experience with Storix system backup/recovery.
    • Knowledge of scripting/configuration management via Ansible a Plus.
    • Applicant must have strong knowledge of backup and recovery procedures, and disaster recovery procedures
    • Applicant must pass a security background check as prescribed by NERC
    • Applicant must be able to lift 50lbs
    • Ability to work independently and establish work priorities with minimal supervision
    • Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information for security compliance

    Desired Qualifications

    • Minimum 9 years AIX/Unix v6x+ engineering/administration
    • Minimun 7 years RHEL 5,6,7 engineering/administration
    • Knowledge and experience of other Clustering Technologies eg Veritas Cluster Server
    • Experience with TSM/Avamar on AIX/Unix/Sun/RHEL Linux Systems.
    • Knowledge and experience of Performance Management Tools eg Teamquest, BMC, NetCool
    • Knowledge and experience of Solaris on Sun/Oracle a plus.
    • Experience with Audits and Compliance a strong plus.
    • Experience with Hadoop and/or other data analytics technologies a strong plus.
