    Our client, a leader in their industry, is hiring a Director of Purchasing. This is a full time, direct hire position located in the Mercer, PA area. This position is responsible for driving purchasing policies and practices for company operations. This position will be responsible for the provision of materials and services in support of manufacturing operations and sales. The ideal candidate will have at least seven years of experience leading a supply chain/purchasing function.

    Responsibilities

    • Develop sourcing strategy for New Product Introductions (NPI) in cooperation with Business Development, Engineering, Operations, and Quality departments;
    • Negotiate contracts, purchase prices, and significant one-time purchases with a focus on ongoing cost reduction and reporting;
    • Lead global sourcing initiatives to support operations;
    • Support value analysis and value engineering (VA/VE) activities in cooperation with Business Development, Engineering, Operations, and Quality departments;
    • Strategically identify alternative sources to support capacity/risk management, cost reduction, and quality initiatives;
    • Strategically identify alternative parts/components to achieve highest product value;
    • Enable and ensure systematic use of company's ERP system (SAP);
    • Manage inventory levels via proactive system setting maintenance and planning;
    • Develop and maintain supplier scorecard process in cooperation with Quality department;
    • Lead/mentor/develop/manage Purchasing/Procurement team to achieve targets. Develop high level of collaboration, deployment of best practices, and accountability;
    • Negotiate transportation rates and services in cooperation with Logistics team;
    • Develop Purchasing practices to fulfill ISO 14001:2004 and OHSAS 18001:2007 requirements;

    Qualifications

    • Minimum of seven (7) years of experience leading a supply chain/purchasing function for a manufacturer of custom equipment/products;
    • Global sourcing experience;
    • Experience with direct and indirect purchasing spend in the $50-100M range per annum;
    • Experience with cost-focused solutions to manufacturing issues;
    • Experience with strategic purchasing practices, i.e. category management;
    • Inventory management/reduction experience required;
    • Experience with design and manufacturing of industrial machine products;
    • SAP experience;
    • Understanding of lean manufacturing, JIT, OEE, line sequencing, KANBAN, etc..

    Education

    • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred.

    Certifications:

    • Certified Purchasing Professional or Manager and Lean Six Sigma Certification.
